Tammy ist ausgebildete Physiotherapeutin und Studiobesitzern von Bikram Yoga Schottenring. Geboren in Kalkutta, Indien, lebte sie bis 2008 in New York City, bevor es nach Wien ging. Im Frühjahr 2006 absolvierte sie – unter persönlicher und direkter Lehre von Bikram Choudhury – die Ausbildung zur zertifizierten Bikram Yoga Lehrerin. Sie hat bereits im International Headquarter’s Studio in Los Angeles unterrichtet, ebenso in New York City, Chicago, Kentucky, San Diego sowie in Hamburg und Berlin. Kürzlich wurde übrigens auch ein TV-Bericht über Tammy’s Studio auf ATV ausgestrahlt.
Vera: How did you start Bikram Yoga?
Tammy: I was working as a physical therapist in New York City and injured by shoulder at work I started taking yoga classes to build up a strong posture to help support my spine. Yoga heals your body from the inside. It’s a life long process of healing and staying healthy even in old age.
Which experiences have you made with Bikram Yoga?
I have made many experience with Bikram yoga. The most powerful experience is that every bikram yoga class I take I always discover something new in myself, emotionally, physically and mentally. I have seen wonderful changes in my yoga students as well and every student seeing their body improving with practicing yoga and they are also then feeling mentally better. Many students come with low back pain and are cured after starting yoga.
For who is Bikram Yoga suitable?
Bikram yoga is suitable for everyone. Yoga is a way of healing the body from the inside. Depending on the age and lifestyle the asanas can be easy or difficult. The goal is to come and make the yoga class without any judgement and an open mind. We have students as young as 14 and as old as 75!! Yoga has no boundaries or limitation.
What benefits does Bikram Yoga provide?
Bikram yoga has many health benefits. Some benefits you see immediately such as weight loss, clean health skin as the sweating is flushing toxin from your entire System, improvement of the digestive system etc and other benefits you see over time as general improvement of your entire physical system because we are continually repairing and regenerating new health cells in our body. As the body is connected to the mind, emotional and mental health also improves!
How often do you have to practice to gain these benefits?
With any activity the more regular you are the more benefits you will see. To notice the health benefits a regular practice of 2-3 times per week is recommended. However if you want to change your body, eg. loose weight or strengthen your muscles you must come minimum 5 times per week .
Many interested students are afraid of the high room temperatures because of their cardiovascular system (CVS). Do you have any recommandation how to manage to come through a BY class in case of problem with your CVS?
The temperature is only a matter of getting the mind and the body used to it. Beginners start slowly and improve as they do the yoga.
How often do you practice yourself?
I do yoga 5-6 times per week. I would love to practice everyday!!
What’s your most favorite asana?
I really love every yoga asana! Each asana has so many benefits it’s difficult to choose.

Well yoga is alternative medicine. It helps you to use your own body to heal itself from injuries and maintain a health body. Everyone can benefit from it. Heat and yoga is a therapeutic tool that have been used throughout time to heal the body. We are combining the benefits of heat and yoga to bring awareness to people that you can fix any problem with self awareness.
